The BOB ride is a great opportunity for training - for the Death Ride, or for any other ride with lots of climbing.
While the simplest training approach is "You need to ride more hills so you can ride more hills.", some techniques will get you there faster than others. With BOB you ride up nine or ten significant climbs, and between each your body has ample time for recuperation before the next effort. This is a better way to train your body than going into the big mountains and climbing for hours at a stretch. The repeated recuperations are at least as important as the building up of your climbing muscles. And with foodstops every 17 miles, with the appropriate types of food, you can do this training with the optimum level of fuel and fluids to carry you through - even on these rural roads that otherwise have no services.
So with BOB you get a beautiful training route, fully supported and sagged, so you can actually enjoy your tough training.
