Announcing the new beta* Spontaneous Sanctioned Ride System for 2008!

The Problem: Due to busy schedules, many people who would like to lead a ride cannot plan 1 or 2 months in advance in order to get their ride(s) into the newsletter.  Nearly everyone enjoys watching their club mileage increase every month, however, you can only attain club mileage on “sanctioned” rides, i.e., those that appear in the newsletter.

The Solution:

Announcing the new Spontaneous Sanctioned Ride System (SSRS).  Here is how it works

Saturday August 23

10th Annual Circum-Tahoe Ride

Join us on Saturday August 23rd for the 10th Annual Circum-Tahoe ride around Lake Tahoe. This is an annual event led by Mike & Louise Lynch. The ride starts on the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd. at Stateline Avenue in South Lake Tahoe (in front of Harrah’s Casino). Start time is 7:30 AM. We will ride clockwise around the lake; a total of 72 miles with 3500 feet of climbing.

The first 15 miles is an easy flat ride to warm up before the first of two major climbs: to the top of Emerald Bay. Afterwards, there are several long descents, and more smaller climbs until we get to Homewood, which is about 28 miles into the ride. There we enjoy a full breakfast at the Old Tahoe Cafe before continuing around the lake. You will see some spectacular views of the lake from both high up in the mountains and along the shoreline.

The next major climb is on the northeast side of the lake. It is the long, steady climb up Spooner Grade. Just after cresting Spooner, we arrive at Hwy 50. From there it is a wild, fast, high-speed descent to Zephyr Cove, which is the last of 5 rest/regroup stops on the course. Including all the rest stops, we usually finish back in South Lake Tahoe around 2:30 PM. This course is rated as one of the most beautiful bike rides in America.

As an added attraction, all riders are invited to join the ride leaders the evening before the ride for a fantastic Italian dinner at Scusa Italian Restaurant located at 1142 Ski Run Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe. If you have never ridden around Lake Tahoe, this is your chance. It is truly a ride of a lifetime.
